The 4-1-1 On Removing Stains From Carpet

It's happened to all of us, one hour before our guests arrive the bottle of red wine just got spilled all over the new carpet. Don't fret because we have compiled at least 50 stains and how to clean them up. Enjoy!

Always remove stains promptly; delaying may cause permanent staining. Below is a guide to clean-up of some common stains and spills:

Blot liquids with a dry, white cloth or white paper towel/napkin. Scrape up solids and semi-solids with a spoon, break up solids, and vacuum.

Pretest in an inconspicuous area to determine whether or not any spot removal solution will cause color transfer or other damage to carpeting. Apply several drops to a testing area, holding the cloth on the area for ten seconds. Do not use if changes occur. NEVER INCREASE CONCENTRATION OF THE RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS.

Apply a small amount of the solution to a white cloth, allowing it to sit for approximately ten minutes and work from the edges of the spill to the center to prevent spreading. Blot, do not rub. Removal of the stain may take several repeated efforts. Continue using the selected cleaning solution until transfer of the spill ends. If some stain still remains, use the next cleaning solution. NEVER INCREASE CONCENTRATION OF THE RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS.

Once the spill/stain is completely removed, rinse the area with cold water and blot with a dry cloth until the moisture is removed. In some instances, a dry, absorbent cleaning compound may be substituted to minimize drying time.
