Carpet
Maintenance Check-List
|
•
Vacuum every 2-3 days in high traffic areas and once a week in less-used
areas -- 3-to-7 strokes in the forward and backward direction. Make
sure the last stroke is in the direction of the pile to guarantee
a smooth appearance.
• Routine vacuuming and cleaning will minimize the dust mite
allergens in the home. However, these allergens are not known to release
from carpet into the breathing zone, even during periods of heavy
activity.
• To enhance the appearance and increase the longevity of your
carpet in high traffic areas, place small rugs in front of chairs
and/or furniture that are used most often. Occasionally move furniture
and reverse area rugs.
• Use furniture glides or cups under the legs of heavy pieces,
or move your furniture a few inches backwards or sideways so that
the bulk of the weight does not remain in one area. If depressions
still occur, work the carpet pile back into place with a coin’s
edge, and then apply steam with a steam iron held a minimum of four
inches above the carpet. PLEASE NOTE: The iron should NOT
touch the carpet.
• Always remember that stain-resistant carpet is easier to maintain,
but it still requires attention and maintenance. Stain-resistant finishes
hold the spill on the fiber’s surface, allowing time to use
spot removal procedures before the spill penetrates the fiber permanently.
• The use of topical treatments such as soil retardants, stain
repellants, anti-static treatments, antimicrobials, and deodorizers
without the approval of the manufacturer may void carpet warranties.
Check all warranties thoroughly. |
