Carpet Installation Guide

BEFORE CARPET INSTALLATION:
• Complete other remodeling projects in the rooms being carpeted, i.e., painting, wallpapering, etc.
• Vacuum the old carpets and/or sweep the floors to reduce the amount of airborne dust and dirt. After old carpets have been removed, re-vacuum the floor.
• Room temperature should be maintained between 65°F and 95°F, or 18°C and 35°F, and the humidity level below 65% before carpet installation. If installing over concrete, slab temperature should not be less that 65°F. Conditions should be maintained for at least 48 hours before, during and after installation.
• Carpet should be unrolled, ventilated and adequately relaxed for a minimum of 24 hours prior to installation.
• All cracks in the floors that are 1/8 inch wide or protrusions over 1/32 inch should be filled and/or leveled. Using a latex or polymer fortified patching compound is recommended. SEE FLOOR PREPARATION FOR ADDITIONAL TIPS.

DURING CARPET INSTALLATION:

• Always provide adequate ventilation. Open windows and doors, use exhaust fans, or operate the fans of your heating/air conditioning system. Always exhaust to the outside and avoid recirculating the air.

AFTER CARPET INSTALLATION:
• As during carpet installation, ventilate to full capacity for 48-to-72 hours after installation. This will reduce the odor resulting from the removal of old carpet and cushion, or from the new cushion, adhesives, or seaming tape.
• Regularly vacuum carpeting to reduce crushing and increase longevity of carpeting. Invest in a good vacuum cleaner, one that has a strong motor or dual motors, a powerful airflow, a high-efficiency filtration system, an enclosed dust-catching vacuum bag, and correct brush height adjustment.

In the months following installation, some of the following common characteristics may occur. These issues are common and should cause no concern:
• Shedding: This will subside with routine vacuuming.
• Sprouting: A single tuft will extend beyond the others, usually along walls or at seams. Snipping it off – NOT pulling at it – will solve this dilemma.
